  • Clarinet Shirt

    Clarinet Shirt

    100% Cotton, Tagless

No catchy phrases or silly puns on this classy clarinet T. A silhouette of white on black or black on light blue, this clarinet is proportionally and technically accurate, allowing the detail-oriented clarinetist to wear it proudly, without fearing retribution from equally-detail-oriented peers, constantly deriding the now-mentally-scarred musician for the lack of a side Ab key on his shirt. It was a gift from Grandma! She meant well, she didn’t know any better!

Modeled after a Boehm system Bb soprano clarinet. (if you play Albert, Oehler, or other system and cannot deal with the humiliation of wearing a Boehm-based shirt, let us know. If demand is high enough, it could happen…)

Graphic has been scaled down to fit nicely on the shirt. The clarinet on the shirt is not as large as an actual clarinet.

Shirt has “mostlydifferent.com” in small letters on the left sleeve. Still want to advertise the site, but it seemed a shame to plaster the logo directly next to the clarinet.

This piece has not been rated according to any of the handful of grading systems in existence. It has been performed successfully by multiple college-level ensembles, and could probably be handled by less-experienced ensembles as well. In my experience, the primary difficulty in putting this piece together is in ensemble coordination, rather than in the difficulty of any given part. A few sections featuring frequent changes in meter and offset rhythms (variably intended to convey malfunction or confusion or disarray) tend to be the trickiest bit, mainly in regards to the ensemble achieving an adequate comfort level. See http://www.mostlydifferent.com/music/slqf3 for full-length recordings of multiple performances of Super Legend Quest Fantasy III.

If you must have a number, I'd wager Grade 5-6.

  • The Cage of the Different People

The Cage of the Different People

by Benjamin Valdivia, illustrated by Andrea Gabriel

    44 pages

Alex is an eight-year old boy in California. Living in a busy city, he often sees airplanes in the skies, buses and cars on the roads, and people strolling on the sidewalks. He notices that just like the fascinating planes and cars, persons come in different forms. In school there are children who are very different from him. The children there have different colors of hair, skin, and eyes. There is even a variety of heights and personalities. But in a way they are all just like Alex. They have bright smiles and they are all fond of playing.

When Alex’s little sister Carla enters school, she ends up feeling sad and left out. Since she does not move as fast as the others do, children are putting her aside. Instead of helping her, they separate her from the games. Soon, she is forced to stay in a cage built by the school to keep her safe from the running and playing on the playground. This only makes Carla feel even more left out and different. But if all of us are different, why keep Carla apart? Can Alex make the other children see that everyone is different in his own way? Bond with your kids as you discover the answer in The Cage of the Different People: A Story of Brotherly Love.

    11" wide, 8.5" tall.
